The University of Tasmania is a collaborator on the ARC funded Australian Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science (ACES). The Centre, which includes researchers from the University of Wollongong, Monash University, Deakin University, University of Melbourne and Australian National University, will advance cutting edge electromaterials science through the discovery of new materials and their 3D assembly into more advanced electrochemical devices. ACES is seeking applicants for the position of Research Fellow in the Ethics, Policy and Public Engagement theme.

In the role you will conduct original research of high quality in areas related to the ACES Ethics, Policy and Public Engagement theme, with an emphasis on bioethical and policy/ regulatory issues in developing synthetic biosystems. Working with ACES researchers at UTAS and Monash University, the Research Fellow will work on one or more of the following projects:

·      Identifying the potential ethical responsibilities of manufacturers to end users for prosthetic organs;

·      Identifying the ethical implications of assumptions about “dual use”, therapy and enhancement;

·      Identifying the ethical and epistemic limits of randomised clinical trials for medical device and personalised medicine regulation;

·      Identifying the implications of new medical diagnostic systems for access to health care and international aid.
