The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Adelaide welcomes applications for the mid-year round for higher degree (PhD) scholarships in all disciplines, including one in conjunction with the following ARC Discovery Project in the Philosophy Discipline:

Philosophy of Memory
This scholarship is associated with the project ‘The Truth about False Memory’, directed by Assoc. Prof. Jordi Fernández.
The project is concerned with the 'false memory' vs 'recovered memory' debate on whether reports of long-forgotten sexual abuse in childhood  should be taken at face value as expressions of genuine memories or not. Several key issues in this debate hinge on various philosophical  questions regarding the metaphysics, intentionality, phenomenology and epistemology of memory.

A number of potential PhD research topics on those issues and, more broadly, the philosophy of mind are available in connection with this project,
depending on the experience, skills, and interests of the best applicant.

For more information on this project and/or the suitability of potential research topics, prospective applicants may contact Jordi Fernández at

Eligibility: Applicants will have a minimum of Honours 2A result or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia by the closing date of 31 May 2014.

Stipend$25,392 per annum (2014 rate), indexed annually. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.
