What kinds of factors can make a line of inquiry a better or worse one to pursue?
This question can be addressed at different scales: the personal ("Did I turn off the stove?), the interpersonal (as in a conversation), and public (as in news stories). Professor Siegel focuses on two commonalities shared by inquiries and inquiry-adjacent practices that she argues cut across scales, in an attempt to articulate norms of attention.
Susanna Siegel is Edgar Pierce Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University. Siegel is best known for her work in the philosophy of perception and epistemology.
