The School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, wishes to appoint a specialist in ethics to a position of Lecturer (equivalent of U.S. Assistant Professor) in Philosophy. This is a full-time, continuing appointment, commencing in mid-2012 (or later by arrangement).

The successful candidate will teach broadly in undergraduate courses (not just in ethics), offer more specialized high-level courses and supervise doctoral and other postgraduate research. The appointee must be a friendly colleague, a skilful teacher and be actively involved in research and publication.

The successful applicant must possess a PhD in Philosophy and will teach some history of philosophy. An interest in one of the following areas would also be an advantage: ethics and law, experimental philosophy and ethics, moral psychology and ethical implications of science and technology.
