GRADUATE POSITIONS IN POLICE ETHICS
The Centre for Ethics, Community Engagement and Communication at the Victoria Police Academy is currently advertising seven positions for educators/facilitators. Two of these positions are earmarked for "ethicists". These may include people with professional or industry backgrounds who have a track record in training ethics and building systems to promote professional standards. However we are very interested in receiving applications from academic graduates with a background in philosophy, applied ethics or a cognate discipline, and a proven interest in professional or organisational ethics.

These positions are permanent and full time (although there is scope to negotiate a flexible working arrangement when appointed). The starting salary is competitive with a level A academic position. The jobs are located at Glen Waverley in outer Eastern Melbourne.

I am looking for people who are comfortable with teaching non-academic students, committed to the role of academics in public life, flexible, possessed of a sense of humour and a sense of adventure, moderately willing to travel, and willing to learn about the realities of the policing environment and the challenges of applying theory to real world practice. You will have chances to "go behind the curtain" of policing by visiting police stations, riding along in police cars and generally seeing things members of the public never get to see.

A teaching qualification or CertIV in assessment and training is desirable but not required (we will train you). An academic interest in policing or security is an advantage but is not required.

Inquires can be directed to Dr Steven Curry (steven.curryATpolice.vic.gov.au or 0407 566 980).
