Casualisation (October 2005)
Fractional and Full Time Appointments (2002)
On the appointment of Women (27 August 1982)
On the appointment of Australasians (27 August 1982)
Council recommends, as a guideline for philosophy departments (programmes, disciplines, etc.), that no more than 15% of the total lecturing in undergraduate (including honours) subjects be done by casuals. This figure does not include cases where staff have bought themselves out of teaching with research grants, etc.; nor is it taken to have any bearing on casual tutoring. In the case where replacement is required for those who have bought themselves out of teaching, it is recommended that, in as far as possible, such teaching be given to non-casual fractional appointments.
(Council Meeting Minutes October 05)
Departments are requested to implement the FAUSA Affirmative Action Policy at department level by -
-
(a) actively seeking applicants from suitably qualified female candidates for vacant positions;
-
(b) taking up references and seeking written work from all female applicants;
-
(c) making available, on request, to unsuccessful applicants the reasons for their lack of success.
This resolution was adopted following the report of a committee established to investigate the special problems concerning women in the philosophy profession. It was further decided that a member of Council, Janna Thompson of La Trobe University, should be appointed to monitor the implementation of these policies. Departments making appointments will be advised of these policies and asked to provide information by which their effectiveness may be assessed.
(AGM 27th August 1982)
On the Appointment of Australasians
Although permanent positions will continue to be advertised internationally, selection committees are to be encouraged to appoint well qualifies Australasian citizens or residents, and to appoint others only when they are entirely convinced that the superiority of the candidate is real and significant.
(Adopted at the AGM in 1981 and confirmed at the AGM in 1982)
